Margaret Atwood was born on November 18, 1939 in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. She is a novelist, poet, literary critic and essayist. According to her online Wikipedia profile, she has published 17 books of poetry, 16 novels, 10 books of non-fiction, 8 collections of short fiction, 8 children’s books, and one graphic novel, as well as other small press editions in poetry and fiction. She served as a consulting producer of Hulu’s series, “The Handmaid’s Tale”, based on a dystopian novel that she wrote and published in 1985.
We will read her short story, “The Man from Mars” which explores the ideas of identity and interpersonal relationships. I have taken the short story from a book titled, The Best Short Stories of the 20th Century.
