Nikolai Vasilievich Gogol, Мико́ла Васи́льович Го́голь, was born on March 31st, 1809 and died on March 4th, 1852. He was a Ukrainian writer who published in the Russian language. Last year we read his work, Viy.
This time we will be reading his work, The Overcoat. According to various literary critics, one can discern his love for the Ukrainian culture and people, especially in his early works. This work in particular is about needing a coat to face the cold weather and the cold and indifferent hearts of those that surround our protagonist.
We will meet together to discuss Gogol’s work on Thursday, April 7th at 7:30 pm at La Biela in Plaza Francia, Recoleta.
Please read the work ahead of time and come ready to share your thoughts and reactions to the work.
Please let us know if you will join us for our first meeting of the Café this year in English. Let us know you will be coming so we can save a place for you at the table: cafeliterarioba@gmail.com.
